My Story
Jennifer Maire
DNP PMHNP- BC
Hello, and welcome! I'm a board-certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, specializing in integrative and holistic approaches to mental health care. My journey into psychiatry and mental health has been deeply influenced by both my personal experiences and my clinical training. With a Doctor of Nursing Practice, I blend evidence-based psychiatric care with a holistic approach that considers the physical, emotional, and psychological factors contributing to overall well-being.
Growing up, I watched my mother work as a nurse, and knew her concerns about the healthcare system's profit-driven nature, but I was inspired by her dedication to caring for others. Later, as a mother of six children, I saw firsthand how mental health challenges—like anxiety, mood disorders, and trauma—could deeply impact not only the individual but also the entire family. These experiences motivated me to pursue a career in nursing, where I could provide holistic care that addresses both mental and physical health.

Strengthening Healthy Support Systems
I saw how misunderstood mental health conditions were, even within the healthcare community. This propelled me to focus on psychiatry, particularly how mental health influences family dynamics, relationships, and the ability to thrive in everyday life. Over time, I’ve developed a unique approach to care that integrates traditional psychiatric treatments with complementary therapies and mind-body approaches while building skills for managing symptoms and increasing distress tolerance. I am attuned to complex and attachment trauma, helping patients navigate life in healthier ways, both at work and in relationships.
I believe in strengthening healthy support systems and using a values-based approach to treatment, empowering patients to cultivate balance and resilience in their lives and the lives of their children.
Empowering you to Build a “Tool Box”of Skills
A significant part of my work involves teaching distress tolerance skills, including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills, to reduce suicide risks among youth. I continue to teach DBT in public junior high schools to help reduce suicide rates, which has been shown to lower rates of anxiety and depression—not just in young people, but across all age groups. I help students understand the body’s natural response to stress and empower them with tools to manage their emotions and bodies more confidently.
Whether you’re a child, adolescent, adult, or parent, my goal is to meet you where you are and help you build the skills and confidence needed to handle life’s challenges. Together, we’ll work toward not only managing symptoms but also helping you find long-term emotional and psychological well-being.
My Personal Interests
Outside of my clinical work, I love spending time with my family, grandchildren, and our two black Labradors. I enjoy dancing, weightlifting, and traveling—activities that keep me balanced and energized. My life has been shaped by constant growth, and I bring this energy into my practice to help others find their own path to healing.
